LUNA WHISPERS: CHAPTER 19

 

FREYA POV

I stayed with Kye as he continued telling stories about Michael. If I said I was listening I would be lying. I couldn’t even eat the rabbits that were killed. I knew I would throw up once again if it entered my stomach. I just made up an excuse that I wasn't hungry. Thankfully Kye didn't suspect a thing.

"More for me then." He just said.

"Did you hear me Thea?" He said and I was snapped back to reality. 

"I'm sorry. I've just been feeling a bit unwell after I vomited." I said 

"It's fine. I told you we could go home. We didn't have to stay." He said 

"This was important to you Kye." I said 

"You're more important." He said. He reached out to touch my face. He caressed my face tenderly.

"You don't know how much you mean to me Thea." He said. His eyes shining with affection, it looked so intense. He began to lean closer to me. Immediately, I knew what he was about to do. I faked an injury to get him to stop.

"Ow!" I screamed and it was like he snapped out of his trance.

"What is it?" He asked.

"I think something bit me." I said turning my face the other way. 

"Okay, let's leave now. You need to rest." He said

"But we're not done yet." I said frowning a bit.

"It's fine. Let's just go." He said with a small smile on his face.

"Get on my back. I'll carry you." He said. 

"You don't have to." I said but he cut me off.

"Stop arguing and just get on my back." He said. I climbed onto his back and he adjusted me, he carried me as he walked towards the territory. My eyes were closing and I didn't know when I did but I slept off. The next time I opened my eyes I was on top of a bed. It wasn't my room. So I guess it was Kye's, typical of him to take me here. He liked my company a bit too much.

I turned around and I saw him looking directly at me. My eyes lost all trace of sleep. Has he been staring at me all this time I've been asleep?

"You look like an angel when you sleep." He said 

"Thank you." I said.

"You slept passed dinner so I brought you some food." He said. He was holding a plate of meat. When I saw it my stomach rumbled. Kye had an amused look on his face. I blushed, a bit embarrassed.

"Thank you for the food." I said smiling.

"You're welcome." He said.

"Would you like to join me?" I asked.

"No, I would rather watch you eat." He said. I felt uncomfortable with that. But I didn't say it. I just ate the food while he watched me. As soon as I was done I kept the plate on the floor. I looked outside and I saw that it was still dark.

"Can I go outside for some air?" I said to Kye.

"Of course. Can I join you?" He replied.

"Sure." The two of us stepped out, it was busy outside. I thought everybody would be asleep by now.

"I'm surprised people are still up." I said

"It's usually like this when it's my birthday. They're making preparations for it. It's the only time I allow them to eat and drink as much as they want." He said. Is that not a bit selfish?

"That must make them happy." I said

"They have no choice but to be and do whatever I tell them to." He said. We both reached the garden and he sat down. I decided to lie down instead. I just wanted to look at the stars. It reminded me so much about Ace, it reminded me about my last birthday. This was exactly what we did. It was the first time that I realized how deep my feelings were for him. I closed my eyes thinking back to that exact moment.

1 YEAR AGO

I had just finished my chores at the pack that night and I was about to go rest. My stomach was still full of the deer meat that mother made for me to eat. I went inside my room and I laid down to sleep. 

In the middle of the night a noise woke me up and a voice as well.

"Freya." The voice whispered. I opened my eyes and got up from bed, a bit tired. When I saw who was behind the door, my eyes opened widely. It was Ace and he had a smile on his face. Mine was the opposite though, I was scared instead.

"What are you doing here?" I asked 

"I didn't see you for the whole day and I wanted to see you before the day ended. I needed to wish you a happy birthday." He said.

"You didn't have to Ace." I looked around me to check if anyone was watching.

"No one's awake Freya. Do not be scared." He said. He stretched out his hand towards me.

"Come with me." He said.

"Where?" I asked.

"Just come with me, you scared mouse." He said.

"I'm not a scared mouse." I said poking him. He laughed and we both went outside. He took me to the gardens. He asked me to sit down.

"Wait for me here. Close your eyes okay." He said. 

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"You ask too many questions. Just close your eyes." He said. I closed my eyes and I waited for him. Suddenly I felt something around my neck. When I opened my eyes it was a necklace decorated with shiny stones.

"I picked the stones from the river, I made it myself. Do you like it?" He asked.

"Is that even a question Ace. It's beautiful. I love it." I said. I looked at him, appreciation in my eyes.

"Thank you Ace. You didn't have to go through all this trouble. Yet you did." I said.

"Don't talk like that. You're my best friend. It's the least I could do." He said. Bestfriend. The word peirced my heart a bit. But I accepted that it was all I was going to be. He was going to get married to Ralia. I had to remember that.

"Still, thank you so much." I said. We both lay down on the grass watching the stars together. I turned and I looked at him with a smile on my face. He did the same and we stayed like that for some time.

PRESENT 

FREYA POV

"Thea?" I heard. I had come back to reality. Back to my nightmare.

"Should we head inside." He said 

"Of course. It's getting a bit chilly." I said. I stood up and the two of us went inside. It didn't take long for me to go back to sleep again.

The next morning I woke up a bit unhappy that I couldn't spend the day with the people I loved, with the people I wanted to spend it with. Instead I was stuck here with Kye. I turned to the other side of the bed but I did not see him. Good. I did not want to see his face. Infact, I did not want to see it all day but I knew that would be impossible. I stood up to go have bath. I entered to bathroom and I stripped my self of my clothes and untied my hair. I entered inside the water, cleaning myself. I decided to sink inside for awhile it usually calms me down. But I didn't know how wrong I was for this moment. Because when I did it this time, my soul went away from my body.

I woke up on a muddy floor. I stood up and looked around me. Everything was scary. I started hearing a voice calling my name. It sounded like her again.

"Freya." She whispered.

"What do you want from me? Just leave me alone, please!" I screamed.

"You know I can't do that. I'm a part of you. Just like you're a part of me." She said. I turned my face and there she was, right behind me. I ran, faster than I have before but I could still hear her voice. She was hunting me. As I was running, vines wrapped itself around my legs and stopped me. It dragged me back and hit me on a tree. It wrapped itself around my neck. I could not breathe. I saw her once more looking at me.

"Please let me go." I said 

"I cannot do that. We'll always be together Freya." She said smiling.

"No!" I screamed and thrashed around the floor and suddenly I opened my eyes and pushed my head out of the water.

"No!" I screamed, holding my neck.

"Thea, calm down." Kye said. He wanted to touch me but I smacked his hand.

"Hey, hey. It's just me." He said.

"It's just me. Relax." He said again. I was crying now and holding my neck. He wrapped my body with a clothe.

"Hey, calm down okay." He said holding me close to his body. But it was not him that I needed, the person I needed wasn't here with me.

After my episode, Kye left me alone so I could dress up. He came back inside when I was done. He sat down beside me and touched my shoulder.

"Was it another nightmare?" He asked.

"Something like that." I said to him. He sighed.

"You need to move on from your father Thea." He said. Oh, if only this was what all the nightmares were about.

"I know. It will take some time but I will." I said. I turned to him.

"You don't think I'm a freak do you?" I said. He looked at me sort of amused by what I had said.

"Of course not. Why would I think that?" He said. He turned to me and held my hand.

"When I was newly exciled. I used to have nightmares as well." He said.

"It went on for some months. It was like I was reliving that same day all over again. It felt like I would never move on from it, most of the time. But as time went on, things started becoming better." He said and his face suddenly turned sinister. 

"I replaced those nightmares with a thirst for my brothers blood. The blood of everyone who ever hurt me and a promise to myself that I would reclaim my rightful place." He said looking at me. Suddenly his smile came back.

"One day it will all end. But you have to also fight it. Make an effort to make it stop. Fight those demons, only then would you be able to move on." He said. I nodded my head. Only agreeing with the last part of that sentence. 

"Come on, let's go for a walk. It might help you calm down. The festivities will not start until dusk." He said and we both stepped outside and went for our walk.

ACE POV

I went to the gardens and I sat down thinking of the last time that Freya and I were here. It was her birthday and I had given her the necklace that I made for her. She looked beautiful under the moon light and even more beautiful wearing it. I decided to have a small gathering for her in celebration of her birthday. It was night and I asked Darren to prepare everything for the festivities. The bonfire was already lit. It was only going to be Me, Darren, Gertrude, Isabelle, Ralia and Yuri tonight. Inviting my mother would have only sullied my mood. 

"Ace, everything is ready." Darren said. I followed him to the fire. The others had already arrived. Gertrude had already brought the deer meat and Yuri some ale.

"I thought this would help lighten the mood more." Yuri said. I smiled at him.

"You did well Yuri." I said to him. We were all going to say the best things we thought about Freya, basically we would be talking about her all night. Yuri poured us all drinks in a bowl.

"I will start first, naturally." I said and everyone laughed.

"I wish Freya was here to celebrate with us. But she is fighting a much important cause. I'm sure if she was celebrating with us tonight she would have been happy to have us all gathered here. I've never been prouder of my wife than in this moment. She continues to give me more and more reasons to love her. To admire her. I wish her all the success in her misson, more years to celebrate. I wish her for more times by her side, more moments with her. To my wife and our Luna." I raised the bowl and I drank from it. Gertrude went next.

"My little baby would have eaten all the deer meat by now If she was here. Oh how she loved them." Gertrude said and we all laughed.

"I have always been so protective of her, not wanting her to see the bad of the world, after all she had been through. I knew I could not protect her from all of it and that a day like this would come one day. But I am happy that it did. I'm proud of who she has become. I am happy to call someone as brave as her my own. I will continue to pray to the moon goddess for her safety everyday. Happy birthday my love." She said and drank.

"This is a bit strong." She said squeezing her face and we all laughed again. The gathering continued that way for the rest of the night. We all drank and ate and made merry in celebration of my wife. And after all the festivities, we dispersed. I decided to stay back for a while. My mind drifting to my love.

FREYA POV

We were all outside gathered for Kye's celebration. He had me beside him as he drank and drank with the rogue guards. They laughed and made jokes all night while I just sat there watching them. At a point I excused myself and I went out. I saw Neveah standing at the far end. Probably waiting for orders to serve the laughing men some meat again. I walked up to her and stood by her side.

"Can I stay with you Neveah?" I asked 

"Of course Freya. You must be tired of watching them." She said laughing.

"Yes, I am. I chose to leave there before my ears exploded." I said giggling a bit.

"Today is also my birthday you know." I said. Neveah looked at me shocked.

"Why didn't you tell me sooner. I would have had a present for you." She whispered.

"It's alright Neveah. A breathe of fresh air with you is more than enough." I said 

"You miss your family, don't you?" She asked. I sighed.

"Now more than ever. I wish I could celebrate with them." I said. Neveah put her hands on my shoulders and said.

"Do not worry, you will after all this is over." She said smiling. I smiled back and then after I heard Kye shout my name.

"Thea, come back here!" He said. I squeezed my eyes shut. Neveah gave me an apologetic smile and then I walked back to Kye. I wanted to sit down on my chair but he pulled me on his lap instead.

"Kye." I said giving him a questioning look.

"What is it?" He said. Giving me a tipsy grin. Was he drunk? Suddenly I felt him sniffing my neck and I froze.

"You smell so good." He said and he kissed my neck. The men around us laughed loudly. Jacob was the only one with an unsmiling face. He looked disgusted by his behaviour.

"Stop Kye. You've had too much to drink." I said pulling him away. I looked at him smiling.

"Come inside with me okay." I said 

"I'll do anything you ask me to Thea." He whispered. I lifted him up and told the men to continue enjoying themselves. I took Kye to his room. I dropped him on the bed. I was about to go when he dragged me down and hovered above me, pinning my hands on the bed.

"Where are you going? We haven't had our own fun." He said smiling and sniffing my neck again.

"I don't want to Kye." I said. Kye looked up at me his face unsmiling. He held my hands tighter.

"Kye." I said scared.

"You're not going anywhere Thea."
