LUNA WHISPERS: CHAPTER 18

 

FREYA POV

After my talk with Jacob I went back to my chambers. I was happy I had crossed this milestone. Jacob was going to be a huge asset to us. Ace would be happy about this. Today was Day 5, I would see him today, finally, I had been counting down the days till I would see him again. I woke up with renewed hope. Feeling happier than I had in days. I was going to go for a walk with Neveah in the afternoon. I wore my clothes and went to the maid quarters to get Neveah. We were both about to leave. We almost crossed the gate. But then we heard the voice of Kye calling out to us.

"Thea, you're going for a walk?" He said. I turned to him, I went close to him and put my arms around his waist.

"Yes, I am." I said smiling up at him. He looked behind me and saw Neveah. His eyes lighting up in recognition.

"I remember you, you're the maid who told me about Eren." He said and he looked at me.

"What are you doing with her?" He asked suspiciously. I looked at him still bearing my smile. 

"Well, after I heard what she did. I sought for her to thank her for everything. If not for her coming forward with the truth regardless of the risk. I wouldn't have been free. So we've been a bit closer since then." I said

"Oh." He responded.

"Do not worry. I'll be back soon." I said

"Please do so. I have something I would like to tell you and show you." He said smiling mischievously.

"Okay." I said letting go of him and then Neveah and I went into the forest for our 'walk'. I went to the dragon fruit tree to wait for Ace, Neveah decided to leave me alone, hopefully getting the hint that we might need some privacy. After a few minutes I felt a hand cover my eyes. On instinct I stepped on the attackers foot and brushed him to the floor, I heard him groan and when I saw his face, I saw that it was Ace.

"My, it seems all that training you've been doing has improved a lot better." He said with a grin on his face.

"You scared me." I said remorsefully, I bent down to look around his body for any signs of injury.

"Did I hurt you?" I asked. He looked at me smiling.

"My strong, brave wife. You did not harm me in any way." He said and I blushed a bit.

"Stop it." I said helping him up. We both sat on a branch. Ace lifted his hands to touch my face.

"How have you been?." He asked 

"Things have calmed down. I'm doing quite well. Kye still thinks I share the same affections he has for me. Its been quite beneficial to me." I said. After talking I frowned a bit.

"What is wrong my love?" He asked.

"I've been having nightmares. More like visions and revelations according to the sage." I said.

"The sage?" He asked a bit confused.

"I saw him in one of them." I said 

"What do these visions contain." I didn't want to tell him about the fire and increase his worries. I know we said no secrets but I don't want him feeling anxious and worried about the future. A future which I intend to change.

"I see myself, trying to kill me." I said. Ace sighed.

"What do you think it means?" He said.

"I do not know but I will figure it out." I said 

"I'll help you as well my love." He said. I smiled at him and gave him a kiss on the lips. Suddenly I remembered Jacob and my eyes lit up.

"I have something to tell you." I said. I recounted everything to him. He looked at me with pride.

"Freya, I'm happy to have a Luna like you." He said. He looked down like he was thinking of something.

"What is it?" I asked.

"I just wish my mother felt the same. She came to me saying ludicrous things. She suggested I replace you with Ralia if you die here. How could she even say such." He said. Isis didn't shock me one bit.

"Your mother has never liked me, no matter what I do. I'm afraid she never will." I said.

"I do not care about my mother or whatever she says. She will learn to accept you whether she likes it or not. You are an even better Luna than she was." He said. I smiled at him.

"Do not worry, I will prove to your mother and every other person in the pack that I am worthy of you and them." I said 

"You do not have to prove anything. You've already done enough. If they can't see that, then they are blind. You are better than all of them combined Freya. Even me." He said and I smiled moving closer to him and caressing his cheek with my palm.

"You make me want to be better. You make me want to be stronger." I said. 

"Tomorrow is your birthday." He said. I almost forgot about that. Everything must have gotten to me lately. Mother would usually celebrate with me. She would roast me some deer meat and we would eat and be merry in her little room.

"You could celebrate for me. It will be just as memorable." I said 

"I wish you could be there with me. I would have planned something truly special for you." He said.

"Well, circumstances aren't on our side. There will be many more birthdays to celebrate my love." I said. 

He smiled at me and kissed me once more. I was happy in his arms. I wished that it would remain like this, me in his arms, both of us exchanging stories for as long as we want. But alas it had to come to an end, I had to leave now. I released myself from Ace, telling him that I had to return. He sighed but he let me go. I gave him one last lingering kiss.

"I'll come back to you. I promise." I said 

"I love you." He said 

"I love you too." I responded. He hugged me after saying this and whispered in my ears.

"I think I have to tell your mother the truth. She's getting suspicious and all my tales of your well being are becoming exactly as I said to you. Tales." He said.

"Do what you must but reassure her that I am well and that I am safe." I said. After saying that. Neveah and I returned back to the rogue territory. Soon after our return, I went back to the rogue territory thinking of what Kye wanted to tell me and show me.

ACE POV

I went back to the pack after my meeting with Freya. The sight of her face alone was enough to fill all the loneliness that I have had without her by my side. But soon enough, my tank will have to be filled again. I went to my chambers to change my clothes and I summoned Darren. He was there within a few minutes.

"Ace. You sent for me." He said 

"I think it is finally time that we tell my mother-in-law the truth." I said to him. He nodded his head agreeing with me that it was time. We both went to Gertrude's chambers. She stopped being a maid ever since I married Freya. It would have been inappropriate in my eyes if she had continued that way. She was family and she would be treated as such. 

Mother, of course had a problem with it as usual. I just hope one day that she would have a change of heart. I hate how her behaviour is causing a strain between us. If she decides to continue this way. I would have no choice but to stay away from her. I just hope it wouldn't reach that extent. We both got to the door of her room and I knocked. She opened up and when she saw me, she had a bright smile on her face.

"Ace, you're here. Is Freya back. You know tommorow is her birthday. I want to make something special for her." She said excitedly.

"Can I talk to you mother?" I asked.

"Of course son." She responded. We went inside and she offered us both chairs to seat on.

"I hope you can forgive me mother." I said 

"For what?" She responded with a slight frown on her face.

"We thought it would be best to keep it a secret from you. So you wouldn't get too worried." I said 

"What are you saying Ace?" She said. I told her everything that has been happening for the past few weeks that had gone by. She looked quite shocked but the most dominant trait was fear.

"Freya is doing fine mother. She sends her regards and she pleads with you not to be worried." I said.

"How can you let her go on such a death mission." She asked.

"Believe me, I tried. But your daughter is her own woman. I cannot force her to do what she does not want to and knowing Freya, she would have found one way or another to leave eventually if I had told her no." I said.

"You're right. She can be a bit strong headed whenever she sets her mind on something, she never goes back from it." She said. She looks at me one more time a bit concerned.

"You're sure she's fine?" She asked.

"She's fine mother." I said 

"I'm so proud of my girl." Gertrude said.

"I'm proud of her as well." I responded. After a while Darren and I left her chambers and I went downstairs. As I was about to head to my chambers, I saw Ralia outside, she looked at me and smiled, she motioned for me to come over.

"Go ahead Darren." I said to him. He saw where I was looking or who rather and then he nodded and left. I walked up to Ralia.

"How are you today? Are you feeling better. Last time I saw you. You were still quite upset with your mother." She said.

"I'm better now." I said.

"And how is Freya?" She asked and I looked at her. She looked back at me in a knowing manner.

"I know Ace, you don't have to hide it any longer. Trust me to keep it a secret." She said.

"Your mother mentioned it when we were having tea." She said. I closed my eyes.

"Don't worry, I will not mention it to anyone. I hope she is doing fine?" Ralia asked looking concerned. 

"I know that you wouldn't do that. She's doing fine given the circumstances." I said 

"I'm happy about that. What she is doing, it's really brave of her." She said.

"Yes it is." I said smiling.

"Well Ace, I just wanted to know how you were doing. I will go ahead now. Take care of yourself alright?" She said.

"You too Ralia." I responded to her. I went back to my chambers to rest for a while.

FREYA POV

When I came back to the rogue territory, I decided to take a little rest before I went Kye's chambers. I felt tired from the walk. Kye wouldn't mind if I spent some time to sleep. By the time I woke up it was night time. I didn't think that I was that tired. I decided to take a bath and change my clothes before going to Kye's chambers. As I went the other way my head started to spin again and I leaned against a wall. I regained myself and then I left.

I went into Kye's chambers to meet with him. I saw him looking towards the window again. He liked looking outside way to much.

"Kye, I'm here now." I said. He smiled and he told me to come closer. I moved towards him and he held my hands.

"I wanted us to go on a little adventure." He said 

"An adventure?" I said 

"Yes." He said. He came closer to me and held my shoulders.

"Come with me." He said. I followed him downstairs. He went to the rabbit shed and brought two of the rabbits out and put them in sacks. He created a hole in the sack where the animals would breathe in case they didn't have air. We passed the gates and went into the forest.

"Where are we going Kye?" I asked.

"Just a little bit further he said. We went deeper, so deep that we reached the boundary but we didn't cross it. 

"What are we doing here?" I asked looking shocked. He looked at it for while then told me to sit down.

"We're going to do something important here. We will be here a while." He said 

"What are we going to do and why would we be here for a while?" I asked.

"I would like to celebrate my friend who died long ago. Today marks one day before I made the decision that got me exciled." He said.

"I come here before my birthday to celebrate my friend Micheal." He said. I squeezed my palm in anger. He had the nerve to think he and his friend deserved to be celebrated. I decided to control myself.

"I'm sorry for all your loss." I said. 

"One day Ace will pay for each and every one of them with his blood." He said. Over my dead body. 

"There's a reason why I like rabbits. He said bringing the innocent animals out. 

"Apart from them being innocent and quite beautiful animals, they make great sacrifices." He said. So this is why he kept the animals. To sacrifice them on this day as a momento to his friend. The only thing that seemed to redeem Kye only made him look more evil. Soon enough his fangs came out. And he killed both animals. Pouring their blood where we stand. 

"This is for you Michael. A significance of the blood you shed and a promise that I will get revenge for us. Just like I promised you every single year on this day." He said. I watched him as he performed the sacrifice. He killed those animals like they meant nothing. Like they were nothing. I was never going to look at those rabbits the same again when I go to visit them like I usually do. Knowing that they were going to die would ruin the experience for me.

Looking at the blood as it dripped. I suddenly felt bile come up my throat. I put my hands on my mouth and ran. I vomited everything I ate that day. I felt a hand on my shoulder and also rubbing my back.

"I'm sorry If I had known it would make you feel this way. I would have told you to wait for me further away. I just wanted to share this moment with you." He said.

"It's okay, you didn't know and I didn't say anything." I said. 

"Are you sure you're okay? We could go back if you want." He said 

"No, this day means something to you. So we'll stay." I said forcing a smile on my face.

"Thank you for joining me Thea." He said smiling.

"You're welcome Kye." I said forcing another smile on my face.
