BROWN & GREY: FINALE
BELLION POV.
As we got to the house, I started getting scared of confronting my father. But as soon as Lota placed his hands on top of mine I regained my confidence again. We walked into the foyer, holding hands. I saw my father sitting on the couch, luckily he wasn't drunk this time. Like the other times on my birthday.
"Bellion, its good that you're here, I wanted to discuss with you about the wedding guest list, there are some people I want out of it." He practically demanded.
"There will be no need for that, I'm not going through with the wedding." I said confidently and Lota gave my hand a squeeze. My father stood up having a sinister look on his face.
"I'll take that as a joke." He said.
"It's not a joke, I'm se.." before I could complete my statement, my dad kicked the lamp away from the table and broke it. Lota pulled me behind him to protect me from the shards.
"DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I'VE PUT INTO THIS YOU UNGRATEFUL BRAT!" He yelled.
"And you want to throw it all away for what? For this man." He spat saying Lota's name like it was a disease. It infuriated me. I got out of his arms and faced my dad head on.
"This man has showed me more love and affection than you have since I was born. All my life you've made me feel guilty for mum's death. You've made me feel like I've had to earn my own father's love, like I have to prove myself worthy of your affection. Well that ends today, I won't let myself be debased by you anymore and I definitely will not let you gaslight me into thinking that mum's death was my fault." I said anger radiating off me.
"I'm not going to marry Kai, I love Lota and there is nothing you're going to do to stop me from being with him." I said. As I and Lota were about to leave, dad yelled out loudly.
"If you do this, consider yourself out of my family. I will never forgive you Bellion!" I turned back smiling at him.
"I'll do you a favour and pack my things tonight. I'm done. You know what dad. If mum could see you now. She would be repulsed." I spat at him and walked out. The last thing I heard as I left was dad screaming at me.
I parked my things and left the house but not before bidding Kayla goodbye. She was in support of my decision and was happy that I finally stood up for myself. Lota and I stayed at a hotel until it was time for us to both leave for France. Yes, the two of us. I was going to go with him. I was going to start over my life with him. Whatever life held, I was willing to face it with him by my side. I was willing to see what life had in store for us.
I was finally taking a chance to chase my happiness.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
FIVE YEARS LATER.
"Sweetheart, I made breakfast. Come and eat or you'll be late." I said walking over to my husband with a smile on my face.
"Asa m, sorry I was answering a phone call from a client." He said kissing me on the cheek.
"How are my babies doing this morning" he said kissing my belly.
"We're amazing, now come eat. I still need to finish writing my book." I said. I continued writing, Lota encouraged me to. I thought I had lost the spark but I guess I haven't. Two of my books have became best sellers and I've gotten so many world wide recognitions.
Lota finally fulfilled his dream of being a lawyer. He was one of the best. Everything was going well for us. We were happy. I still haven't talked to dad yet. Kayla stopped working for him, she got married a year ago. I was happy for her even though I never got to attend the wedding, we still talk as well, just like Lanre and Lota. Lanre got a job as an engineer at a company in Nigeria from what Lota told me. Everything was perfect.
"Okay, but first?" He said carrying me up. "I have to give my wife a special bath, for all her hard work." As he took me up, I giggled all the way.
I've never felt more at peace in my entire life.
THE END.
