BROWN & GREY: CHAPTER 5

BELLION POV

As I took a stroll in the garden, the memories of last night kept filtering into my brain. The look of disappointment in dad's eyes etched into it like a bad movie.

Maybe I should've just stayed in the restaurant a little longer. Maybe then dad wouldn't have been so mad at me. But then I remembered what Lotanna said about me having no fault in the matter, part of me wanted to believe him but after what dad said, I didn't know what to believe about myself anymore. I was so confused. I didn't have long to think when I saw Kai and Lota talking, they both looked quite irritated with each other.

I walked towards them and as I got closer I knew I had to break the tension.
"What's going on here?" I asked. Both Lota and Kai turned to look at me.
"Bellion " Kai said walking towards me, he touched my cheek and gave me a peck on the forehead. He's never done that before.
"Your new help didn't know who I was. I was just clearing him up, nothing to worry about." He said smiling.

"He's not a help, he's my personal driver and bodyguard".
"Yes, whatever." He said non chalently. After that Kai looked at me quite disappointed.
"Why didn’t you wait for me. I know I took a while but as a good fiancee you should have at least had a little patience." He said.

"I'm so..." I was about to complete my statement before Lota spoke up.
"Only a fool would leave such a beautiful woman waiting like that, in my opinion you should be the one apologizing and she disappointed at your attitude". He said.

I looked at Lota wide eyed. He had the habit of saying whatever came to his mouth, his was too outspoken. Kai looked livid, before he could speak I interrupted.
"Kai, why don't you wait for me inside while I have a little word with Lota." I said smiling at him. That seemed to appease him and he went in. I turned to Lota.

"Lota, what was that?". I said
"Asa leave me oh, I said what I said and I'm not taking it back, he should be kneeling down and begging for your forgiveness for the way he treated you, but here he is playing the victim." He said angrily.

"It's not entirely his fault." I said quite unsure with myself.
"Oh please, Bellion ever since I got here all I've seen is how people have been treating you like an inanimate object. Your father talks to you anyhow and now your fiance is the perfect example of an arrogant spoilt brat. Why do you allow yourself to be treated that way? Why not stand up for yourself? You're better than this now." He said.

"Lota, please stop." I said. Maybe I didn't want him to continue because he was right. But he wouldn't understand, I had to be perfect for this family. I had to prove my worth.
"But Asa." He said.
"Please." I said exhausted. I think he got the message because he didn't continue. I wanted to talk to him about something else anyway and I won't let this spoil it.
"Lota, I have some good news." I said. His eyes looked at me expectantly, they were brighter as soon as I said that. I liked that, the mood has finally changed to something more positive.

"I talked to some of my contacts in France that own several law firms, I talked to them about you and because they owe me a few favours they promised they would look over your credentials and see if you're good enough to be an intern there, all I need now is for you to send them to me. And I promise this isn't a scam." I said.

"Asa, are you serious?" He said. I nodded my head, smiling. Next thing I know he's lifting me up bridal style and spining me around.
"Lota put me down." I said laughing. He stops and looks at me.
"Thank you, you don't know how much I appreciate this. God bless you." he said smiling. He hadn't put me down yet though. I found myself looking at his eyes again as if in a trance. They really were beautiful. He smiled at me, eyes scanning my face. Before we knew it, we heard a voice behind us.

"Bellion?" Kayla said, amusement shining in her face. Lota immediately put me down. I stood awkwardly, clearing my throat.
"Yes?." I said.
"Kai said I should inform you to get ready. He'd like to take you out to make up for yesterday." She said. Looks like Lota's words got to him. The Kai I know wouldn't have said that.
"I'll be right there." I said.
"I'll see you later?" I told Lota.
"Yes, of course." He said not looking at me, after that I left to go get ready.

❤️❤️❤️❤️

The date was the same as always, Kai talking and me listening. It was boring compared to my time with Lota. Even If it wasn't a date, he still made me feel relevant. I never felt relevant with Kai or even remotely happy. What was I thinking? Why I'm I always comparing the two of them?.

I can't think of Lota that way. I'm marrying Kai. Bellion think of Kai. My conflicting thoughts were eating me inside. I was happy when Kayla walked in.
"So, how was your date?" She asked.
"Same as always." I responded.
"Hmmm, if you ask me, I prefer Lota over that stuck up Kai." She said.
"Kayla." I said glaring at her.
"Sorry but it's the truth. I see the way you look at him." she said wiggling her eyebrows.
"I don't look at him anyway." I said defensively.
"If you say so." She said teasingly.
"I actually came to ask you what you wanted for dinner." She said.
"Actually, I want you to order dinner for me, I want Akpu and Egusi soup, its this Nigerian delicacy that Lota introduced me to." I said. Kayla smiled.
"Okay, I'll get it." She said.
I layed on my bed to have a little rest before Kayla came back. I ended up dreaming about a certain brown eyed man.

To be continued.
